Previous winery chief Anton du Toit was so inspired by the charming fishing village of Arniston, whose golden sands meet the turquoise blue Indian Ocean, that he created the Arniston Bay brand. It has now become one of the most popular of wines exported from South Africa.

This is a most appealing example of a Western Cape brand offering a best value Shiraz. When Arniston Bay first introduced this varietal it was rather too heavy and intense. A few years later and the blending has become much more skilful. The result is a mouth-watering, plummy red full of flavour, but it is neither too rich nor too heavy. With just a dash of spice you have a delightfully balanced and most agreeable red.

Food guide: Most red meats, spicy sausages, kebabs and pizza.

Cellar Note: Drink within 12 months.
